Howdy friend!
My name is Brooke Imber. Growing up by the beach in South Jersey, I had always loved being outside, but had never been on a hike or swayed in a hammock suspended by trees. During my sophomore year of studying psychology and art education at JMU, my new friend took me on my first hike in the area; High Knob. I remember being absolutely terrified of driving off the shoulder as we wound our way up 33 West, but found myself absolutely in awe of the scenery provided by this new experience.
This is my tenth year living in the Friendly City, and there are so many things about this place that I am in love with. I appreciate how close we are to mountains, swimming holes, and magical sunset spots. I love working as an elementary art teacher and outdoor learning coordinator in a school district that is wonderfully supportive. I adore that a mere 5 minutes from court square, I can hop a woven fence and say hello to some cute goats. I appreciate that just about every time I leave the house, I see at least one friendly face and also connect with a new one. The live music here is incredible, the smiles are contagious, and the people are both kind and creative.
Photography is my way of honing in on what I deeply admire about each moment and attempting to capture that forever; it is my favorite way of practicing mindfulness. Photos I take often highlight the way that light shines through the misty trees after a storm, an adorable face that an animal is making, or the love that a father and son share in their canoe on the Shenandoah. There is something purely magical to me about capturing authentic human connection, and I’d love to do that more often. If there are moments / activities that you love sharing with your friends and family, I’d love to be your photographer. If you’d like to play outside some time, I’d love to be your friend.
